This not just my experience........but of the many who speaks out against it and those majority who choose to remain silent.I don't know whether it is worth while for mention...but i do believe that i can create an awareness among a few people , atleast. You may presume these things as silly, but the mental stress and the impact is huge , than what we are seeing outside.Am not talking about the atrocities against women or a molestation story. I am talking about the lapse of orkut in ensuring the security of its users !
Last week i heard a report that the Kerala police have registered a case against a man for creating fake profiles and reportedly sending abusive scraps and mails to another man. It is said to be the first ever reported orkut crime in the state. The term reported requires special mention here. Because , it is indeed the first ever reported crime , but not the first one in Kerala. Even more serious crimes are happening here, but most of the time it is either un-noticed or intentionally kept aside, thanks to our society---including me which is a part of this society---My question is why always orkut getting the target of such culprits!!! The reason is very simple , as simple as orkut is. It is because of the easiness by which one can create forged id's and fake profiles............
Even much before this incident ,thank God it was not in Kerala, we saw another , but a tragic incident featuring orkut. A girl commited suicide after she found that her photo had been 'morphed' and posted in a website. The photo was reportedly taken from the album of the girl in the orkut by her friend.
A many more such things are happening here. One can easily create a fake profile by using a plain email id and can harasse upon the fellow users. It is mainly due to the lapse on the part of google, the parent company. Earlier we need an invitation from an existing orkut user to create a new account......but now you need just a google account , which you can create by some clicks...........
Even i had a bad experience from orkut. I started using orkut on getting an invitation from my friend. I was not so much active in the initial stages , as i was in my final semesters . But as i got out of college i found orkut a boon , as i was able to get in touch with my friends and relatives. I even got my friends of ester years too. From the very begining it self i got numerousfriends requests and i readily accepted all without a second thinking, you may call it foolishness or ignorance. Every thing goes fine and smooth untill the month of May 2007. I don't want to elaborate those things . I paid the price for being negligent. I was forced to delete my profile and even abandoning my email id.
So here are the reasons why I dislike orkut.

- Posting fake information
- Ability to peep into another person's profile
- The album is easily accessible for all users and can be copied down easily
- Easily accessible email Id's of another person
- Any one can write on our scrapbook
